Modern Daguerreotype
with Jerry Spagnoli
August 29-30, 2025
Photostock Workshop –
Cross Village, Michigan
It’s an honor to have perhaps one of the most well-known practioners of the daguerotype process joining us again, this time for a full workshop where participants will be immersed in the intricate art of this historic photographic process. Spagnoli, a master of the process, will guide you through the meticulous steps of creating images on silver-plated copper sheets.
The workshop begins with an exploration of the daguerreotype’s rich history, highlighting its significance as one of the earliest forms of photography. Participants then learn about the technical aspects, including preparing the plates, managing exposure times, and developing images in a darkroom environment. Spagnoli emphasizes the artistry involved, encouraging each participant to express their unique vision through composition and subject choice. The hands-on experience of working with the delicate chemicals and equipment fosters a deep appreciation for this art form. By the end of the workshop, attendees leave not only with their own exquisite daguerreotypes but also a renewed sense of connection to the origins of photography and its artistic potential.
