Scottish Highlands and Glens
Sept/Oct (TBA), 2025
with Bill Schwab
It’s time to go to Scotland! Join me on this photographic expedition of Scotland’s dramatic landscapes, ancient history, and ever-changing light.
On this expedition, we’ll be focusing on Scotland’s Highlands and glens which offer breathtaking landscapes, rich history, and dramatic natural beauty. Beginning in Glencoe, we’ll be treated to towering peaks, misty valleys, and cascading waterfalls. The rugged terrain, often shrouded in atmospheric fog, creates a moody, cinematic feel, perfect for capturing Scotland’s wild heart.
Moving north, the winding roads of the North Coast 500 provide endless photo opportunities, from the jagged peaks of Assynt to the mirror-like reflections of Loch Maree. In Glen Affric, ancient Caledonian pine forests frame serene lochs, offering a tranquil contrast to the Highlands’ ruggedness.
Further east, the Cairngorms National Park presents vast moorlands, dramatic cliffs, and roaming red deer, making it a wildlife photographer’s dream. Whether capturing golden sunrises over misty glens or the vibrant heather in bloom, Scotland’s Highlands promise unforgettable images of one of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes.
Who Should Come
This will be an immersive photographic exploration like all of my trips and although we are not looking for any specific level of expertise, you should be very serious about your photography and looking to push your boundaries in unfamiliar territory. Not that there is anything wrong with snapshots, but if you’re more of an occasional photographer looking for a tour, this might not be for you. We will be exploring the full extent of our days, scouting and photographing from morning until night, so if you’re looking to challenge and push yourself as a photographer, this trip is for you.
What’s Included
Once you arrive at Glasgow Airport (GLA), the adventure begins. Your experience will include all transportation while with the group, a private room with facilities each night, and all breakfast and dinner meals. We will be operating out of our own van, exploring both our immediate surroundings as well as taking day trips to spectacular locations in the area.
Lunch stops on our day trips will consist of small cafes, pubs and restaurants, which will be your responsibility. Also, not included in your experience with me are soft drinks and alcoholic beverages.
In addition, you will also be responsible for your own travel to and from Glasgow, Scotland arriving in the country no later than the first day of our adventure. (For research of schedules and fares, use airport code GLA ) Once you have signed on, I will help with details and arrangements to get you. I also advise booking a hotel near the airport on our final day. I cannot guarantee getting everyone back to Glasgow in time for all flights, so you may wish to book your return travel on the following day, unless you are satying over longer and have your own plans after the trip.
