Scotland’s Hebride Islands and Callanish
Sept/Oct (TBA), 2025
with Bill Schwab
It’s time to go to Scotland! Join me on this photographic expedition of Scotland’s dramatic landscapes, ancient history, and ever-changing light. on this trip we will be focusing on the Hebride Islands, particularly the Isles of Sky, Lewis and Harris
Starting on the Isle of Skye, the rugged beauty of the Quiraing provides otherworldly rock formations and sweeping vistas, best captured at sunrise when the mist weaves through the valleys. The Old Man of Storr, one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks, is a must-photograph, with its towering pinnacle set against rolling hills and distant lochs. Fairy Pools, with their crystal-clear waterfalls, offer a magical contrast to Skye’s often moody skies.
Crossing to the Isle of Lewis, the journey continues with windswept beaches and ancient sites. The highlight is the Callanish Standing Stones, a mesmerizing circle of towering megaliths dating back over 5,000 years. At dawn or dusk, the stones cast long shadows, creating an eerie, mystical scene. Nearby, the rugged coastline and traditional blackhouses of Gearrannan add cultural depth to any photographer’s portfolio.
From Skye’s jagged peaks to Lewis’s prehistoric wonders, every turn reveals a new composition, making this tour a paradise for landscape and history enthusiasts seeking to capture Scotland’s wild, untamed beauty through the lens.
Who Should Come
This will be an immersive photographic exploration like all of my trips and although we are not looking for any specific level of expertise, you should be very serious about your photography and looking to push your boundaries in unfamiliar territory. Not that there is anything wrong with snapshots, but if you’re more of an occasional photographer looking for a tour, this might not be for you. We will be exploring the full extent of our days, scouting and photographing from morning until night, so if you’re looking to challenge and push yourself as a photographer, this trip is for you.
What’s Included
Once you arrive at Glasgow Airport (GLA), the adventure begins. Your experience will include all transportation while with the group, a private room with facilities each night, and all breakfast and dinner meals. We will be operating out of our own van, exploring both our immediate surroundings as well as taking day trips to spectacular locations in the area.
Lunch stops on our day trips will consist of small cafes, pubs and restaurants, which will be your responsibility. Also, not included in your experience with me are soft drinks and alcoholic beverages.
In addition, you will also be responsible for your own travel to and from Glasgow, Scotland arriving in the country no later than the first day of our adventure. (For research of schedules and fares, use airport code GLA ) Once you have signed on, I will help with details and arrangements to get you. I also advise booking a hotel near the airport on our final day. I cannot guarantee getting everyone back to Glasgow in time for all flights, so you may wish to book your return travel on the following day, unless you are satying over longer and have your own plans after the trip.
